This is my third year in high school (junior year), which means that I have learned some really important things about high school that all students should know. So here they are...
1. Have friends that matter. I'd rather have one or two TRUE friends that matter to me and know me rather than a cluster of strangers that don't matter and don't know my personality. Make sure to form a friendship with those who actually try to know you and who you are instead of being with a group of teenagers who don't know you at all. There is no need to be popular in high school because at the end of your senior year, they will all graduate and you will be left with your true friends and there is a possibility that the friendship between you and the person will stick like glue. 2. Communicate With Your Teacher (s). To this very day, I still struggle to ask for help from all of my teachers. I don't know why, but I've always been too afraid, but over time, I've been asking for help, but not as much as I should. Don't be like me; don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it, especially if you are flunking that class. I am still learning this lesson and I am still trying my best to communicate with all of my teachers. If you are shy or quiet like I am, it might take you some time to build up some courage to ask because that is what is happening to me right now. In the end, it will be worth it because you will be passing that class and that's what matters the most in high school, especially if you want to go to college in the future. 3. Do your homework. I know, I know! Pretty much everyone knows this, but doing, or actually attempting to do your homework helps your grade and your test grade because a lot of questions are based on the homework you get. Plus, it's a daily grade. If you want to pass your classes, have your homework finished, even if you think you did it wrong. Your teacher will appreciate you attempting your homework and they will know what you need more help on. I sometimes do my homework the last minute, which is NOT a good idea! Always complete it at least a day before it's due or when it is assigned. Doing your homework really will help your average, trust me. 4. Don't give up. If you are failing most of your classes and it's either the end of the semester or the end of the first nine weeks, don't give up and don't lose hope! Go to your teacher (s) and ask what you can do to get your grades up! There is ALWAYS something such as extra credit or retakes, but if you are in an advanced class, it may be slightly harder to get your grades up because the teachers usually don't offer retakes, but if you are in a regular class, it will be way easier because they offer a lot of retakes, so make sure to ALWAYS take advantage of that! 5. Always take advantage of retakes. You should always take advantage of retakes because it WILL get your grades up and you will have a better understanding of the lesson. Even if you are passing your class, take retake quizzes or tests for a better grade. Remember, you can be happy about your grade, but you should NEVER be satisfied. Always strive for more! Also remember that having an opportunity to retake a quiz or a test is a privilege, not a right. 6. Stay positive! I am still trying to remain positive, but it's difficult when you have a voice inside of you telling you that you can't do it or that you should give up. DO NOT LISTEN TO THOSE VOICES! I know how hard it can be to stay positive, but at least try and remove those negative thoughts inside of your head because it will get you NOWHERE. You CAN do it. Anything is possible if you just work for it! You will get to where you want to be and you have to believe in that and in yourself! 7. Give yourself a break once in awhile. I know that you work hard to get great grades, but sometimes you just need to reward yourself with a break. It is not healthy to continually push yourself to your limit. Kick back, relax, and reward yourself with ANYTHING. For example, a couple hours of TV, one or two movies on netflix, or you can go out with your friends for the rest of the day. Remember, you deserve a break once in awhile! 8. Don't stress! Keep calm and relax. If you are stressing over grades, tests, or future exams, you need to STOP right now. It's important that you take a chill pill because it is not healthy to stress over anything! Take it easy with all of the homework and the studying that you may have to do. Take your time doing what you need to do because if you rush through it; one, you will not learn anything from your lesson and you might fail your test or exam, which will cause you to stress even more, and two, it's just not worth it because you have plenty of time on your hands. In the future, I will obviously learn a lot more about high school, but for now, this is it. I hope this helped to someone! Thank you guys so much for reading. |
